Citizenship Amendment Act, India 2020

In 2020, thousands of Indian women mobilized in Shaheen Bagh (Delhi) to protest the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a law that grants citizenship to all non-Muslim refugees from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan—leaving out the many refugees who happen to be Muslim. #EleÑao, Brazil 2018

Brazilian women leading the #EleNão (not HIM) protests against right-wing candidate Jair Bolsonaro during the Presidential campaign in 2018. They saw Bolsonaro as a danger to democracy and human rights. They were particularly concerned by his blatantly sexist, racist and homophobic discourse and his close ties to the Brazilian military. Argentinian Congress on International Safe Abortion Day (September 28) in 2020

Feminist activists marched to demand the legalisation of abortion outside the Argentinian Congress on International Safe Abortion Day (September 28) in 2020. After years of mobilization and lobbying by the women’s movement, abortion was finally decriminalized in December 2020 and began to be offered free of charge by the Argentinian health system in 2021. On August 17, 2019, Sudanese men and women celebrate a historic transitional constitution meant to pave the way for civilian rule in Khartoum. Sudanese women led nearly eight months of mass protest against President Omar al-Bashir, who was ousted in April 2019 after 30 years in power. Poland October 2020

Polish women came out en masse in October 2020 to protest the country’s Constitutional Court ruling that basically ended legal abortion in Poland.
